A gaping cut opened over the left eye of Vazquez in round one. In round three, a cut opened over his right eye. The severity of the first cut was making it difficult for Vazquez to see and it was evident the fight wouldn't go on much longer. A Marquez combination sent Vazquez down briefly in round three. He easily beat the count but, when Marquez continued to attack, referee Raul Caiz Jr. jumped in to stop the fight at 1:33 of round three.
The possibility of a fifth fight was mentioned after the bout, but Vazquez -who has already had three surgeries to repair a torn retina - should seriously consider retiring to avoid any further damage to his eyes. Assuming this was - hopefully - the last meeting between Marquez and Vazquez, it will go down as one of the best head-to-head series in the history of boxing.

These are definitely the fighters of all time greats. They do not lack in heart and they always gave it their all. I hope they will both retire with so much pride as they have earned their place among the greatest period. The fans have never been let down, kudos to two of the greats.
This two mexican warriors has proven once again that all of their fights are an epic type battle. With the fight that last for four fights, this is history in the making. Marquez fought like a wounded warrior after that third beating, hands full on Vasquez. They are dead even in their all-time match-up but I couldn’t see a fifth fight between this two warriors. But the battle they had gone through will be forever remembered by the boxing fans and it is history in the making.
both fighters should be listed in all time pound for pound as their heart remains competitive than their fighting skills..vasquez with slight advantage in power never look down but his eyes are gone as early as the 3rd round of their historic fourth fight.marquez won the first meeting with a broken vasquez nose,but even up the series with a flurries in thier rematch..a knockdown in the final round of their third fight gaves vasquez a two to one lead though he was battered in their fourth fight to even up again..a very interesting series in boxing fight remains in the heart and minds of the boxing fans..for me they will never be forgotten…
