Arreola Outpoints Quezada

By , About.com Guide   August 14, 2010

Follow me on:

Heavyweight Chris Arreola outworked Manuel Quezada over 12 rounds to win a unanimous decision (118-107 twice and 117-108). Arreola badly needed the win after dropping two of his previous three bouts. The good news: Arreola's punch output was impressive and he knocked Quezada down three times -- twice in the ninth and again in the twelfth. The bad news: Arreola was very easy to hit, was unable to finish off Quezada once he had him hurt and his conditioning remains an issue. Plus, he may have suffered injuries to both hands during the bout.

Arreola remains easy to root for and always gives a great effort when he's in the ring. The problem remains that - despite talking a good game about conditioning and taking his career seriously - there's little evidence that Arreola puts in much work when he's outside the ring. His weight against Quezada was 256, a full 27 pounds above his career low of 229. There have been great heavyweights who did not have great physiques (like Larry Holmes), but there has never been a great heavyweight who carried a spare tire around his midsection. Arreola, now 29, is probably as good as he's ever going to be. He has the heart of a champion ... but lacks the discipline to be an elite fighter.

Arreoloa got the win he needed, but he did not look great against a very weak opponent. He is slow, does not seem to have much clout and he is very easy to hit. An interesting fight would be Arreola against Tua, but I think it would last just long enough for a fit and motivated Tua to reach Arreola’s chin.

arreola is a lazy, weakminded fighter.he will not put in the hard work that is required for the kind of fighter he wishes to be.He talks the talk but doesnt walk the walk.
