Klitschko Stops Peter in 10

By , About.com GuideSeptember 11, 2010

Follow me on:

The impressively efficient but painfully dull reign of IBF/WBO heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko continued with a completely one-sided tenth round TKO of Samuel Peter in Frankfurt, Germany.

Klitschko won every round by throwing combinations of jabs and straight right hands for which Peter had no defense. Klitschko held to neutralize Peter's power whenever the two fighters were close and, as the rounds wore on, Peter was also looking to initiate clinches to avoid further punishment. In other words, a typical Wladimir Klitschko fight.

By round ten, Peter's right eye was badly swollen and he was floored by a series of unanswered punches. Referee Robert Byrd stopped the fight without a count at 1:22 of round ten.

The Klitschko disaster machine keeps rolling along. The brothers are the worst thing to happen to the division in decades. Beating up on a guy who just about everyone else has beat up in the last few years does not qualify as a legitimate title defense, but then these guys care more about safe that interesting or what is good for the division. It will be years before the heavyweight division recovers. The only interesting possibility is the start and stop comeback of David Tua, at 38 still young enough to get back in and still dangerous enough to make a statement.

some people say the Klitchkos are dull and maybe to some, but those people probably have never fought in the ring and can’t understand the technical and strategic plan of disecting an opponent as opposed to taking unneccessary chances just to entertain a crowd.

I don’t know what, if any, “ring” experience Ron has had, and we might get together some time and compare notes. But he should not confuse real issues by less than rigorous arguments: boxing is about risk taking, and that is exactly why the brothers are the least interesting heavyweights in many, many years. It is also why they have both lost to opponents that understand the division and took risks. The division is now largely comprised of noncompetitive heavyweights because the development in the division has been thwarted by the Klitschko brothers. They carefully select opponents who cannot compete. They carefully select venues that they know will favor them. They avoid the U.S. market and it is a reflection of their dullness, that there is almost no network interest in broadcasting their contrived fights. Yes, they are slow, plodding and dull fighters. If a David Tua match can be made, and if Tua takes the match seriously, and if the fight can be made in the U.S., with either of the brothers, perhaps we will see a fight. Unless that happens, the division will remain in poor shape until the brothers retire and leave the scene.

I can’t buy the argument that the Klitschkos duck tough opposition. Who are they ducking? In fact, David Hayes, holder of the only heavyweight championship belt that the Klitschkos don’t own, is ducking them.

The same People that are squawking now were saying two weeks ago that Klitschko had been ducking Samuel Peter. Many of the critics are black fans who will never credit a white heavyweight. Yes, the heavyweight division is meager, but that’s the game. We’ve had some pretty sad fighters hold the belt over the years.

If people want excitement as opposed to boxing they should watch wrestling. no reality but plenty of entertainment

Klitschko will fight Haye, although even that is not exactly a great fight.

The ‘athletic guys who would be fighting Klitschko in the heavyweight div are either in the prison industrial complex or if they have any brain or luck, the NFL.

If you’re athletic enough to be the champ, 225-250lbs, and a free man, why wouldn’t you just be a linebacker somewhere?

That’s not to say we’ll never see another exciting athletic heavyweight talent, just have to be patient.
