Hearns Leads Hall of Fame Class of 2012

Thomas "Hitman" Hearns tops a list of 13 people elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Tommy Hearns, one of greatest - and most popular - fighters of his era, fought from 1977 to 2006 and compiled a pro record of 61-5-1 with 48 KOs.

Joining Hearns are Mark "Too Sharp" Johnson and the late Cocoa Kid in the modern fighter category; trainer Freddie Roach, ring announcer Michael Buffer and promoters Hugh D. McIntosh and Rip Valenti in the non-participant category; broadcaster Al Bernstein and journalist Michael Katz in the observer category; and, posthumously, Newsboy Brown, Leo Houck, Jake Kilrain in the old-timer category and James Wharton in the pioneer category.

Voters include members of the Boxing Writers Association, a panel of international boxing historians and members of the Hall of Fame's board of directors. Induction ceremonies will take place on June 10, 2012 in Canastota, NY.

If you've never been to the Boxing Hall of Fame for induction weekend, it's well worth the trip.
