Pacquiao Robbed! Judges Hand Bradley Split Decision

From , Former About.com GuideJune 10, 2012

Follow me on:

There is no question in my mind that Manny Pacquiao outpointed Timothy Bradley by a wide margin. HBO's announcing team thought Pacquiao won. Harold Lederman scored the fight 119-109 for Pacquiao. ESPN.com had it 119-109 for Pacquiao. The Associated Press had Pacquiao winning 117-111. Punch stats favored Pacquiao by a wide margin (253-159 in total punches landed; 190-108 in power shots). The crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas thought Pacquiao. Promoter Bob Arum - who promotes both fighters - scored it 118-110 for Pacquiao.

Unfortunately, only three scorecards mattered and two of the official judges were watching a different fight than everyone else. Judge Jerry Roth had it too close at 115-113 but at least he scored it for Pacquiao. The other two judges - Duane Ford and C.J. Ross - scored the fight 115-113 for Bradley. There were no knockdowns in the fight so Ford and Ross somehow each found seven rounds to give to Bradley. Unbelievable. Unconscionable. Disgraceful.

How did you score the fight? Vote in our poll.

I wish I can have the opportunity to watch this fight once again. But my observation was that both fighters were not fighting to the best of their ability after some few rounds.
My expectation was the fight to go near Duran vs Sugar Ray’s first fight or sugar Ray Hagler but not at all near!
I can smell rat huuummm. From where? I can’t tell for now.

(2) Mike says:

This is such a BS score in boxing. Boxing is about hitting the opponent to get score. Clearly there were no knock down so tell me this. How the hell did Bradley won the fight if he was out punches and powershot. The stats don’t lie. This is so unreal score. I smell a rat behind this. This is a setup for a rematch fight because this is more money fight then PAC vs Maywheater fight.

my dear Andrew, i am dissappointed by your insincerity. In the depth of your soul you know that BRADLEY won. We also know that all the COMPUBOX BULL….. about PACMAN landing more shots. Now that the excitement is over WATCH THE FIGHT AGAIN. ………………………. ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END. Pacman is on the slide. I WISH MAYWEATHER WOULD HAVE GONE FOR THIS. U WOULD SEEN THE GREATEST CLASSIC IN THE MAKING !!!

This fight just shows us what we already know. Boxing has had a HUGE CUT AND BLEEDING BLACK EYE and no one wants to step in and fix it…….I am so dis gusted with this sports Scoring Judges I and others I know are ready to move on to UFC. Why repeatedly some boxers win the fight ONLY to have it taken away by a judges who clearly their heads and eyes in another world is only about ONE thing A BIG FAT SMELLY RAT …………PLEASE SAVE THE SPORT OF BOXING THIS SHIP IS SINKING!!!!!

(7) Trey Orr says:

This is an outrage ! No way did Bradley win over Pacquiao! That is s bad as when Jimmy young beat the sh*t out of Muhammad Ali and they gave it to Ali.
This is total Bullsh*t.Those judges must have been paid off or just dont like The Pacman.I just dont know. When the whole crowd sees it with Pacquiao winning and Harold Lederman calls him winning. We know then that it was a “RIGGED” fight.
That is just another BLACK EYE in the great sport of Boxing. To say the least I as very disappointed in the whole thing!!! It makes me feel like not even watching any more boxing.

Manny was robbed! I had it 11 rounds to 1 for Manny Pacquiao. If they don’t investigate this! then all of Las Vegas is corrupt.
Then perhaps they ( THE POWERS THAT BE ) will stop Targeting Hudson County,N.J.

(9) Poolshark says:

Those judges who gave it to Bradley need to be banned from boxing for good!! This must be a set up by promoter(s) for a rematch and in the attempt to milk Pacquiao until the last drop before Mayweather.. A rematch will be a sure bet & sweet revenge for Pacquaio while it guarantees another payday for promoters regardless of whether or not Mayweather fight or Marquez rematch will ever materialize.

Surprisingly, I am not as pissed off as I thought I would have been. Everyone knows who won the fight. Tim Bradley himself knows it. But, if I were him I would think why the hell not… let’s do it again.. I have nothing to lose anyway.. This could be the biggest paycheck of my life. Boxing doesn’t get more pathetic than this, people!!

(10) Dale Hammons says:

Once again boxing shows its ugly head, like get real manny had the fight won. how much money did the judges get paid to to swing their vote in bradleys favor? to me boxing isnt a sport anymore just a buisness.does a rematch surprise ya? it’s all about the benjamins.

(12) Mark says:

Pacquiao Outpointed, Outboxed, Thru the only power shots that landed and hurt bradley. Connected with allmost every bob and weve bradley tried. The only thing Pacquiao did not do was finish him off in between the 9th and 12th round. I do not know why. Bradley won 1-2 rounds tops. He does not deserve to be in the ring with such a superior fighter. Even his corner men thought he lost the fight. It is a discrace to boxing fans. The right thing to do is what they did with the one Paul Williams fight. Give the fight and belt back to Pacquiao and fire the 2 judges.

What fight were they watching? While, both fighters were not fighting to their potential the results were clear to me that Pacquiao won the fight.

What is happenning to boxing? Where do they get these judges from?

I can not believe I paid money to see this disgrace of judging skills.

(16) 50 years of boxing says:

The fix is on in Vegas. The Vegas Boxing Commission has to be involved in some way. These people would need to be blind not to see whats going on. I just wonder how much it cost to buy these three judges. There is no other answer. What happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay in Vegas. Whose got the balls to investigate this. Probably nobody.

June 10, 2012 at 4:05 pm
(17) Juan Lozada says:

Boxing suffers to much from rediculous decisions like this. If Nevada Atheltics comission truly cared about the fans and the sport they would look into the scoring with the three judges to determine what it was they saw. Total punches showed Pacquiao landing 253 more punches in the fight. at Best you could “maybe” make a case that it was 9 to 3 in terms of rounds. I love boxing and all fighters, but this is a disgrace. You can’t blame Bradley because he didn’t score it , but if he is true champion and a true fighter he would not accept this victory as he is well aware in his mind he was outworked and outpointed. By his own words at the end of the fight interview were he said he would review the fight. But he will accept the victory and he thinks it will propel him into more super fights for bigger pay days. Bob Arum should be ashamed to have his name and Top Rank associated with such a screwed decision. He holds the contract for both fighters. He will not put personal feelings aside to allow for the fight everyone wants to see against Mayweather. So is he truly helping or hurting the sport.?? My opinion is he is hurting the sport. Just as this decision has destroyed the sport. This is similar to Holyfield vs Lewis 1, were it was declared a draw. De La Hoya vs Trinidad were it was clear De La Hoya Schooled Trinidad. Castillo May Weather 1 were it was clear Castillo beat him. These tyoes of decision make people not want to follow boxing

(18) Patrick says:

Typcial American dream of “Amerifdan Heroes” like the Iraq affair where a young American female soldier was declared a hero for rescuing fellow Americans, all poved to be lies. Manny outboxed and outpointed Timothy. It is a shame and leaves one to imagine what caused such a decision

June 10, 2012 at 6:17 pm
(19) Josh says:

If you watch the fight again you can hear Bradley say to his corner, ” I tried to beat the guy, but I just couldn’t beat him.”

Then after the BS decision he says to Max, “I knew I won the fight.”

I disliked Bradley before this fight because of BS wins he has gotten in the past. This absolute disgrace to the sport decision and Bradley claiming victory after admitting defeat has made me think even less of him.

Absolutely appalling!!!

These rigged fights are killing off the last of the true fight fans, me included. it’s all about the money now, not the true skills of a good boxer/fighter.
RIP…. our sport is very close to death. UFC will be the winner out of decisions like this. SHAME

(22) Obinna says:

I woke up early here(4.30am) in Nigeria 2 watch the fight& with this robbery(not decision) I wonder y I bothered. The corner of bradley&d fighter himself were surprised that he was given the fight. As far as am concerned this was a unanimous decision for pacman, I also think that d judges had in mind his last fight were I honestly think marquez just did enough to win&this time decided to rob pacman but they should not judge fights again because they are a disgrace to boxing. Also think that it’s about the money with a rematch meaning more money 4 everyone involved in the fight.
An advice to pacman always keep up the pressure because he relaxed in the latter rounds.
@chime, which fight were u watching? U say bradley won I think u should give up watching boxing as u obviously don’t know anything about it.

(23) EJ says:

I don’t care about judges decision but I do care about how old the judging system is. Things like the BCS and lottery draft show that sporting events are hardly any fair. BUT in my 30 years of watching boxing, they are still USING the SAME judges. CEO of top rank is 80 years old. The only new thing that is introduced into boxing is the compubox and even that was invented back in the mid-80s!!!
Judges can’t use replays, judges sit on the sides (one on each side) so they can’t get a clear view, etc etc.
Even the rules have hardly been changed since the creation of these rules since 1867. For a sport that has been around for 1000′s of years, you would think it would keep up with the times.

Timothy is not a man! A real man would never take that beating and say he won like he did!! Boxing is doing bad in all major recent fights! They know it from fans! And they will keep doing that since they know fans are dumb enough to keep paying 60 to 70$ per fight. If all fans was to get together and show boxing no love and not buy nomore fights they will hurt and thats what they need!!

@ 23 mr. obinna: u woke up 4am? now i hope u r fully awake. watch the fight again. did u see pacmans corner yelling desperately b4 the last round? did u see the reek of loss in pacmans corner b4 the official announcement?THE PROFESSIONALS WITH PACMAN ALL SAW THE DEFEAT COMING. it was a close fight alright. bradly was just too fast 4 pacman..forget the superstardom of pacman: can u see the sauveness in bradley? ……………… have u cleared the fog/spider web in the cranium?

June 11, 2012 at 7:12 pm
(27) Josh says:

@ chme

Are you completely clueless? Bradley himself told Bob Arum before the decision that he tried but couldn’t beat Manny. Then after the BS decision he claimed he knew he had won the fight.

The disgust in Manny’s corner before the decision was them expecting to be robbed. In the pre-fight press interviews one guy straight up predicted a close and controversial decision for Bradley. Anyone who has watched a handful of Bradley fights in the past know this often happens and in his favor.

Oh, and I have watched the fight at least 3 full times now. And it is more, not less clear in my mind that Manny won the fight for sure without question. I watched it with the sound off all three times and one whole fight in slow motion just to be sure.

In order to take the title from someone you have to clearly and decisively beat them. Bradley didn’t do that, which is even clear by the BS split decision (that is not a clear and decisive victory). In order to beat someone you have to KO them, land more punches, control the fight, hurt them more than they hurt you, get them disqualified, etc. Bradley didn’t do any of those which is clear based on the punch stats alone not to mention what could have easily been seen if you watched the fight.

The only thing I can blame Manny for is not knocking the clown out. He also shouldn’t have been so gracious or calm in defeat, but he is a nice guy and that is just who he is.

If this whole mess really is a conspiracy to get folks to pay to watch a rematch they really didn’t think it through fully. I am pretty much the biggest boxing fan ever and I personally won’t give them a dime to watch a rematch.

Its so sad how corrupted sh*t is anymore. 50$+ for that show, i could of taken that wiped my ass and would of been better use of it after that call.

From the start, things did not look right. Pac-man sitting in a chair in t-shirt and shorts watching the finals while Tim is warming up. Pac-man walking back to the locker room after stretching on treadmill, but walking like he is going to the store for a bag of chips. Then pac man looking like he is about to go into training camp instead of being in shape for a fight. But then the biggest possible tell-tell was Pac-man not fighting the entire round for atleast 7 of the 12 rounds. Yes, there was a rat in the building and everyone knew about it.

Yeah, I tried. I guess at the very least we got a look into what the mind of someone who scored the bout for Bradley might look like. And it is a scary place where delusion gets to donkey punch logic.

(35) Rich S says:

Manny won more rounds than Bradley.
Manny outpunched, out hit and out powered Bradley.
Bradley in his own mind KNEW he lost the fight.
All boxing analysts (save a few) agree Manny won the fight.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Manny has trouble with boxers. Even when he fought Cotto, there were about 3 rounds when Cotto boxed with Manny and Manny didnt look good.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
It appeared that Manny stopped fighting the last 5 rounds.
It appeared that the fight was set up.
There was very late betting on Bradley.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
For anyone to suggest that Bradley won the fight demonstrates that they are delusional. In boxing, unless you knock out your opponent, the judges will surprise you all the time. You see it in the Olympics and professional sports.
When money is involved, the truth goes out the window.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Manny didnt look good. He looked sluggish. Maybe it is that calf muscle.
With that being said, Manny still won enough rounds to win the fight…..or even to tie the fight.
For Bradley to win, he needed to win 7 rounds and lose only 5. That did NOT happen.
He was seriously outpunched and out hurt..
Maybe, Obama was involved.

I agree with 95% of your readers. Pacquiao won that fight and Bradley lost. I was sitting at a restaurant booth with the 32″ TV about 6 feet from me. I had my glasses on and scored the fight 116 to 112 , Pacquiao winning the fight. I gave the last four rounds to Bradley and maybe I can be one or two rounds off, but there was no way Bradley won that fight. These scoring mishaps have been happening for decades. Perhaps the judges were a little teed off when the Pacman caused the fight to start late! Las Vegas is notorius for bad decisions. I’m glad I didn’t have any money on the fight. Pacquiao will take care of business when the “Return of the champions” comes around this fall. If you go to the next fight…bring 3-D glasses for the judges!! (41) Ben Wiser says:

Ok, now I’ve had a chance to catch the replay.

I had it 9 rounds to 3 Pacman winning.
I could see a scenario where I could possibly give two more rounds to Bradley and have it 7-5 Pacman

I could also see, through very foggy glasses a way to have it a draw. That’s stretching it… a lot. In that scenario, a lot of rounds that were pick’em would have all went to Bradley in the flashy slapping punches way. I saw Pac and Bradley catching a lot of each others punches but by and large, Pac was more damaging and effective with his aggressiveness. That’s why I scored it the way I did.
