Now 39, De La Hoya has been retired since taking a one-sided beating at the hands of a prime Manny Pacquiao on Dec. 6, 2008. Oscar was tempted to return to headline a card he is promoting that will feature a rematch between Danny Garcia and Erik Morales for Garcia's WBA/WBC light welterweight titles. That plan changed as soon as De La Hoya started working out. "I went running, I went training, did that for a few days. But my body couldn't handle it. I'm 39, but I'm an old 39. I think my body went through a lot, went through the wringer. In terms of being inside the ring, getting hit, but also outside the ring, living a crazy life. If I have the desire of coming back, I go and work out, and there goes those plans." When asked if he's now 100% done as a fighter, De La Hoya replied "A million percent".
Good decision Oscar.

I couldn’t imagine delahoya or anyone else going back to the ring after the kind of beating delahoya suffured at the hands of pacman. Never mind the reasons, but this decision is sensible and I hope other fighters can take a leaf and not wait for a thorough beating to show them the exit door.
been there, done that…happy for you, Oscar, you decided against a return to battle…so easy it is to forget the pain we handled more willingly back when…
Sensible decision. De La Hoya was a great fighter never dodged anyone and always gave 100%. Good luck with your Promotion business. I hope you conduct it with the same honour and integrity you showed in your boxing career. Wilder v McCreary is not a good example.
Scambled Eggs-all the beatings Oscar took will probably show up later in his life-he’s lucky he isn’t like that now. Always had that height avantage but never seemed to use it to his advantage to keep opponents at bay-crouched in trying to beat them all the time!H &Roy Jones jr. need to stay retired &keep what they have upstairs left! I think Holyfield is probably already brain damaged and shame on any Drs. who clear him and theabove mentioned for any fights.
Yeah. If he DID COMEBACK, the sensible fight would be with RICKY HATTON. vs STURM is an –uninspiring match– to begin with. DelaHoya DOESN’T NEED IT! He’s a self made millionaire. If he came back it would need to be an “inspiring” match. Hey, they guy is a Boxer and if he was back into a live contest once again, it would just be ANOTHER HIGH FOR HIM!
He should comeback he is jst cant make up his mind his body is fine if he is sore its because he is out of shape jst get a rub down after u run or train i mean u have the best sports docters around he did bad fighting pac but so what who doesnt if he comes back he needs to fight pac man at 155 and delhoya will win with a knock down oscar has the best defense ever i mean its like in the game of basket ball if u are a guard like kobe vs rose guess wht he will beat u with quickness so kobe would have to post rose up and win same with oscar pac man is fast so use your advantage dont let him turn u in the ring come in moving at all times legs head fakes in and out what ever except coming in straight and stay far away use the jab lots of combinations
