Marquez Puts Pacquiao to Sleep in Six!

By December 9, 2012

Follow me on:

After thirty-six close, competitive rounds, fight fans figured they had already read the script for the fourth meeting between Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs) and Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 39 KOs). Two things we hadn't seen were Pacquiao on the canvas and an outcome that was neither controversial nor required scorecards. We got both last night!

Check out our complete fight coverage, including punch stats and what may be next for both fighters after the stunning outcome of Pacqauio-Marquez IV.

It was the only way Marquez could be declared the winner, he could not leave the decision to the judges`. Too many of the past fights could have gone either way, many of the decisions were controversial.

I like Manny but i am glad Marquez won and finally got his due.

Well, finally. An outcome nobody can dispute.
These two fighters should get a medal for bravery. Mind you, this is their job and they are well paid for it. Paquiao being fast will always outpoint not only Marques but most boxers but I think he is slowing down and he may be on the way out and should be thinking about retirement. He has had too many hard fought rounds in the latter part of his life & suddenly he has become old. He does not belong on a pedestal any more.
On the other hand, some of the old judges could use a refresher course or else have their pay cut when they make such widely controversial decisions as they have in the past. Not just the Paquiao / Marques fights
but many other as well.
On that note I would like to make a suggestion to the governing bodies when it comes to controversial fights, especially championship rounds:
If and when two out of three judges have a 6 round or more spread difference in judgeing a 12 round fight, decision should be held up and they should be forced to review the fight once again & have everyone’s pay held in TRUST until they come up with a more equitable decision, that is no more than a 2 points spread at the end. It is demeaning to have qualified judges score a fight 117-112; 114-114; 113-116 and get away with it. Somebody obviously fell asleep at the controls or else, they are being paid off. Either way, those kinds of scores should not be viewed as valid and a re-view should be ordered. If they can not agree on a score, then a second panel of judges should be asked to make the final determination.
Anyway, I am glad Marques put an end to this controversy and I think now that he WON BIG, both fighters should hang their gloves up & retire
before they both get hurt and live lives as zombies, as some boxers do.

Mr. Lassu………I agree 100% with your comments. Many times I have wondered what fight were the judges watching? Yes, they should go back to school.

As for Manny and Marquez. they have nothing else to prove, they are both great fighters they have given the fans a great show. Now is time to retire and spend time with their families. Life is too short.

I have to congratulate Marquez for being luckier that night as refree may have stopped the fight in the seventh round due to injury he had sustained. He seized the golding opportunity when his chance came up and his dying Dog start to wiggle his tale!

Overconfidence killed Macquiao, all he was awaiting was when doctor will declear in his favour but yet to learn that a Lion will always fight with his last breath. As for me, repeataion is sign of insanity but not in this case. last confrotation should come before they both hang their gloves.

Lady Luck was on the side of Marquez when he put down Pacquiao in the six roung. It was very obvious that his face was already badly damaged and not too long in the seventh or eight round, he will go down or the ring physician will stop the fight in favor of Pacman. A fifth encounter can be considered.
