The debate over whether or not Arturo Gatti deserves to be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame may continue, but any debate over whether or not he would get voted in is officially over. Gatti, long a fan favorite, was selected in his first year of eligibility and heads the International Boxing Hall of Fame class of 2013.

Gatti retired in 2007 with a career record of 40-9 with 31 KOs and died in 2009 under mysterious circumstance at the age of 37.

Others selected for induction by the Boxing Writers Association and a panel of international boxing historians were: light heavyweight Virgil Hill, light flyweight Myung-Woo Yuh of South Korea; lightweight Wesley Ramey and middleweight Jeff Smith in the old-timer category; Joe Coburn in the pioneer category; referee Mills Lane; ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr.; manager Arturo "Cuyo" Hernandez; cartoonist Ted Carroll; and journalist Colin Hart.

Induction ceremonies are scheduled for June 9, 2013 at the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, N.Y.
