Klitschko Stops Brock in 7

Wladimir Klitschko (47-3) has retained his IBF heavyweight title by knocking out previously unbeaten Calvin Brock (29-1) in round seven at Madison Square Garden. Brock looked nervous and awkward in round one and - apart from a few well-placed bodyshots - never really mounted much of an attack against the larger Klitschko. Klitschko used a long range-finding jab to measure Brock in the early rounds and it wasn't until he was cut above the left eye (by an accidental head butt) in round six that he began throwing combinations and fighting with some sense of urgency. Brock had no answer for Klitschko's power and in round seven was sent face down on the canvas from a left jab followed by a crushing right to the jaw. Brock bravely beat the count but was in no shape to continue so referee Wayne Kelly waved it off at 2:10 of round seven.

On the undercard, Laila Ali - with father Muhammad Ali in attendance - remained undefeated by stopping Shelley Burton in the fourth round of an embarrassing mismatch.

While the fights themselves were less than stellar, the Garden atmosphere more than made up for it. Spotted in the crowd were - in no particular order - Axl Rose, Dustin Hoffman, Boris Becker, Dennis Hopper, Matthew Modine, Lennox Lewis, Shannon Briggs, Zab Judah, Junior Jones, Renaldo Snipes, Mark Breland, Vito Antuofermo, Richard Parsons, James Lipton, Ann Coulter, LeRoy Neiman, Bryant Gumbel, Bert Sugar, David Wright and Spike Lee.

    ok the klit(lmao) is on his way back to makin a name for himself…by way of emanuelle (overated) stewart…yea i said it…..look when it’s time for him to step up against hard as nail fighters he gets nailed…don’t get me wrong he has all the physical tools possible to be a great champ…it’s just he’s european…and they arent to terribly exiciting with personality…i even booed lewis for being boring…i booed him at a graduation he attended at adelphi university on long island he sat in the back mad…and well ya boy the noirnoticvibe hid behind this old chick…hey i ain’t that stupid if he was gonna throw he could duke it out wit tha chick givin ya boy enuff time to escape unscathed…look klit(lol again) needs too become a terror just dominate and destroy with all that height and arm length and power…ooohhh i’m getting so turned on…anyway til then i’ll sip a bit o tea and sleep until a real exciting figure comes along…FREE IEABUCHI…..

    Those fights last night were 100% uninteresting.

    You forgot to mention Lennox Lewis was there walking around. Oh, sure, he was a commentator on HBO, but he still attracted crowds.

    you’s right…..however it’s a sad state when you wish for ole or retired fighters to come back cause the new ones are excuse me (YAWNNNNNNN)…..he could come back and unify the titles and bounce once again…..hmmmmm has possibilities
