Demetrius Andrade is just 20 years old but enters his first Olympic Games as one of the medal favorites at welterweight. He stormed through the field at the 2007 World Championships, winning each bout by double-digit points to reach the finals where he scored a second-round TKO win.
Southpaw Roommates:
Andrade used to share a room with fellow southpaw and Gold Medal hopeful Rau'Shee Warren at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. They're not roommates anymore ... now every fighter gets his own room.
Boo Boo:
Andrade, nicknamed "Boo Boo", got an early start in boxing. He was introduced to the sport at the age of six by his father Paul, who continues to train him to this day.
Birthday Present?:
Demetrius has a one-year-old daughter, Autumn, who will turn two during the Olympic Games. Dad undoubtedly hopes to have a Gold Medal among the trinkets he will be bringing back from Beijing.
