Fighting in the final boxing match of the 2004 Olympics, Andre Ward won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division with a 20-13 decision over Magomed Aripgadjiev of Belarus. Ward's victory prevented the U.S. from going home without any gold medals for the second consecutive Olympics. David Reid was the last Olympic champ from the U.S. back in 1996. Middleweight Andre Dirrell was the only other boxer from the 2004 U.S. team to medal, winning a bronze in the middleweight division.
