WBC Wants Roy Jones Tested
Wednesday August 31, 2005
WBC President Jose Sulaiman says the WBC is "deeply concerned" about the Oct. 1 fight between Roy Jones Jr. and Antonio Tarver "if Roy refuses to undergo a thorough neurological examination after the knockouts he suffered in his two last bouts ... He should not allow his own pride to push him to risk his health and even his life." Wow, how refreshing. Someone in boxing actually concerned about a fighter's health and welfare. Of course, this would be a lot more impressive if Sulaiman's concern was genuine. Jones and Tarver are fighting for the linear and legitimate light heavyweight title, but the only belt on the line is from the IBO ... not the WBC. If the WBC was the sanctioning body for this fight, you can bet Jose Sulaiman would be unconditional in his support of Jones' return to the ring.
