Who is Prince Badi Ajamu?

Wednesday April 26, 2006

Roy Jones Jr. will try to snap a three-fight losing streak when he returns to the ring on July 29 at a site to be determined. Jones will apparently be taking on Prince Badi Ajamu (25-2-1, 14 KOs). While some question Jones' desire to continue fighting after looking bad in his last four fights, there's another question that every boxing fan will be asking ... who is Prince Badi Ajamu? Excellent question. Ajamu is a 34-year old light heavyweight from Philadelphia who has lost to Rico Hoye and Otis Grant and fought to a draw against Anthony Bonsante (yes, the "#1 Dad" guy from TV's The Contender series). None of Ajamu's wins came against anyone significant. So why is he getting a shot at Roy Jones Jr.? Another excellent question. In part because he holds the following light heavyweight titles: NABO, WBC Continental Americas, WBC CABOFE, IBC Intercontinental and Pennsylvania State champion. Meaningless? Absolutely. However, a victory by Jones could give one of the four major ratings organizations an excuse to make Jones the mandatory challenger for the title. Tomasz Adamek, Fabrice Tiozzo, Clinton Woods and Zsolt Erdei are the currently recognized light heavyweight champs ... so it's fairly obvious why each rating organization is eager to grant Jones a title shot. If Jones, 37, were to lose against Ajamu then he would almost certainly have no choice but to retire.

(2) Anthony Wright says:

Obviously you really are on a short leash in regards to fighters bio. Badi knocked Rico Hoye down twice and was winning on all ringside cards for 12 rounds. However in Hoyes back yard he couldn’t outpoint the judges, even showtimes announcers called it highway robbery. Also he did not clearly lose a decision to Otis Grant he lost in grants frontyard due to the same tactics. The draw is more of the same. If you want to know who Badi is, ask Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright and Maywather and they will set you straight.. They know what the real deal is, and if he had not gotten with Buddy McGirt he may have been robbed of two other fights. See the game is tainted to promote advertisers and endorsement front men. Ajamu is a fighter that these current champions run from for fear of a loss. One good thing is that Roy took this fight only because he doesn’t know more than you. But after the fight you’ll be talking about how Badi was a sleeper. Believe me, Winky Wright faced your wrath prior as well. He just got off the line with me and said you won’t believe this *#@t, histories repeating itself. Do the public a favor, your a good writer, but hire someone like me that goes to the gyms and gets the backdoor info and follows the craft early and not late.

The writer has certaintly underestimated and I feel disrespected Prince. I believe Ajamu’s drive, motivation and hard work not to mention his talent will allow him to defeat Roy. I won’t even be surprised is Prince wins and wakes the world. Through all his hard work and determination he deserves this opportunity for obtaining success.

(7) RJJ says:

Roy Jones Jr. is still the best pound-for-pound fighter right now, people don’t respect him because he lost to Tarver, but I think he didn’t want to fight him. Prince Badi is a worthy fighter, yes, but…RJJR will put him out easily.

(8) John H. Danley says:

Roy Jones is a legend. Roy is still the badest man on the planet. Everyone compares them self Roy. For instance, Talver always states “I knock out Roy Jones”. Talver got lucky. His eyes were closed when he hit Roy. In the last fight, Roy could have knocked him out in the latter rounds, however Roy did not want to commit himself and potential get hit with another lucky shot. I think Roy’s plan is a good one and feel he will execute the plan. Hopkins should fight Jones again so that faces a real fighter like Roy Jones Jr.

Roy will crush this moocher! If anyone thinks Mr., I said Mr. Roy Jones Jr. will loose this fight, you really need to get off the crack. Tarver got lucky twice just like Vegas, but you will see Roy Jones put this man on his back to stay. This guy just wants some publicity and a big payday and we all know this. Im OUT!

Wow, apparently no one is remembering the last 3 fights RJJ was in, KO’d in two. That wasn’t luck, by any means it was the display of a fighter who should’ve retired after the JOhnson KO. RJJ is like Jordan coming out of retirement for the Wizards. Prince should not be underestimated, he stands a pretty good chance, he may even make a name for himself by knocking RJJ out. RJJ should’ve quit while he was ahead and pursue other avenues of boxing before he become punchdrunk like Holyfield and seek out fights he shouldn’t be in. Maybe he’ll have a career on HBO w/ Merchant & Lampley. If he doesn’t knock Merchant out. I always thought it was funny when a boxer would get knocked down and Merchant would turn to RJJ and say “a feeling you know all to well Roy,” I have it Prince winning by KO by 10th round.

(12) Greg says:

Who’s talking now? Ajamu set himself up for defeat from the first round. Probably figured out that Jones couldn’t take his punches, exhausted himself in the first 30 sec. When he realized that Jones was still standing, he knew he was in trouble! But I still think that Jone psychologically is broken. He cannot beat a prize fighter, Hopkins would beat him, Johnson would beat him and Tarver surely will beat him. Superman is NOT back.

Haters haters haters give Roy his props he went out there fought a good CLEAN fight and beat the S*** out of ajamu, its almost like ajamu was tring to get disqualified with the low blows cause he just couldnt take anymore. No doubt about it Roy Jones Jr. is the badest and i just think YALL MUST HAVE FORGOT!!!!! Oh,and so i guess Prince Ajamu needs to retire now! HUH Nikki?

Badi has health issues for you that dont know.. y do u think they fought in idaho lol… I also know badi personally seeing as tho he is my brother’s dad and my brotherhas already commented on this. BAdi tried to drop roy in the first round i believe becuz he knew his health wouldnt let him last the full 12 rounds.

(15) Paul Barton says:

what drugs are you guys on! Hoye lost the one round to Badi that he was knocked down ONCE!!! Hoye came back and dominated the fight on all the judges scorecards to take home a UNANIMOUS DECISION. Steve Farhood and Nick Charles both announced Hoye as clearly taking over the fight around round 5. You people get on these blogs and talk out the sides of your asses without having a clue as to reality! Hopefully you’ll start researching before you open your traps!
