Another Contender Sent Packing

Wednesday July 26, 2006
On The Contender, welterweight Gary Balletto edged Aaron Torres by five-round split decision in what appeared to be a very close and competitive bout. It's always difficult to determine if these bouts are genuinely close and action-packed or just seem that way due to ESPN's annoying edited version of the actual fight action. It's a sixty minute boxing show ... you can't show 15 minutes of actual boxing? Anyway, Balletto seemed to do more damage in the fifth and final round to earn the 48-47, 48-47, 47-48 decision. A cut over Balletto's right eye might prove to be an issue if it does not have sufficient time to heal before his next bout.

Note: Aaron Torres may be gone, but not before setting The Contender record for most third-person references to himself during a single episode ... nice going Aaron!
