Contender Final Four Set

Wednesday September 13, 2006
A special double-header episode of The Contender has reduced the field of welterweights competing for the $500,000 prize from 16 to four. In the first bout, Grady Brewer had a surprisingly easy time with Michael Stewart -- earning a 50-45 shutout from all three judges. Not even the editing gimmicks employed in The Contender series were enough to make this bout appear competitive. In the second fight, Norberto Bravo was able to duck the majority of Gary Balletto's wild right hands and was awarded a unanimous decision: 49-46 (twice) and 48-47.

The semi-finals, to be aired on ESPN on Tuesday, Sept. 19, will feature Brewer against Bravo in one bout and Cornelius Bundrage against Steve Forbes in the other. The Contender champ will be crowned on Tuesday, Sept. 26. ESPN will cover the fight live - unlike all the other fights in the series - from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

With the final four finally settled, who do you think will win? Vote in our exclusive Contender poll.

First of all, I want to recommend this Contender Series to all the boxing and non-boxing fans – IT IS A GREAT HUMAN EXPERIENCE IN THE BOXING WORLD -
As far as the fight between Brady and Bravo – both fighters have shown experience, drive and heart. At the end, I think Norberto should be able to win against Brady because he can deliver good body shots and maybe he can hit a little harder.

(3) Patrick (Champ) Nelson says:

Well, I am surprised Brady made it this far. Honestly I would love to see Bravo and K9 in the last fight. Steve Forbes he just does not impress me. Either way I bought tickets and I will see in person myself.
