Pacquiao Stops Solis

Sunday April 15, 2007
So much for Manny Pacquiao being distracted by political aspirations or looking past undefeated but unheralded Jorge Solis (32-1-2). Pacquiao (44-3-2) took a few rounds to figure out his taller opponent but immediately went into attack mode after suffering a cut over his left eye from an accidental headbutt in round six. Pacquiao pounded Solis for the remainder of the sixth and the entire seventh round before finally dropping him with a short left-right combination in the eighth. Solis beat the count but soon found himself back on the canvas from a series of unanswered Pacquiao punches. Solis was clearly hurt but made it to his feet as referee Vic Drakulich reached the count of ten and waved off the fight. Solis, who did not seem interested in absorbing any further punishment, did not protest.

Manny looked beatable tonight. He wasn’t that big as compared to the last Erik fight. I hope he doesn’t get complacent with his training. The next fight for him would be Marquez. I’m looking for that fight. Of the two fighters, I say Manny has improved better than Marquez.

Not quite fair suggesting that the Solis let himself get counted out. He had been hit cleanly and solidly from a series of shots from a devastating puncher, and nothing in his body language - or face - indicated that he was dawdling in getting up. Andrew, you write nice pieces - but have you ever been hit repeatedly and solidly by a professional, with 10 seconds to get up and ready for more?

Being able to watch Manny in person at the Alamo dome was an incredible experience. Especially being in the midst of a predominantly latin-American crowd, I, along with some very close friends proudly stood and waved our Filipino flag throughout the fight in support of Manny. Thanks Manny for the experience and hope that you have given the entire Filipino population throughout the world. And I say this being an African-American, but father to a beautiful balikbayan daughter.

IT FEEL GREAT AGAIN TO HEAR THAT MANNY HAD WON
PERO SANA UMURONG NA LANG SYA SA POLITICA…KUNG GUSTO NYA MAKA TULONG SA PINOY, HE CAN USE HIS POPULARITY RIGHT NOW TO INFLUENCE OUR PRESENT POLITICAINS TO DO SOME MOVES PARA SA KAPAKANAN NG FILIPINO, HINDI Y’UNG ANG POPULARITY NYA AND GAGAMITIN NG POLITICAL PARTIES WHOEVER THEY ARE (mag isip sana sya)….ISA PA! IF ONE TIME MATYEMPO NA SYA ANG MATUMBA SA RING …THE OPPONENT COULD SAY “I PUNCHED AND SEND TO THE CANVAS A FILIPINO CONGRESSMAM”
GINAGAMIT LANG NG PARTIDO ANG PANGALAN NYA

(16) Ken Hissner says:

The fact Freddy Roach was in that corner at the last minute made such a difference. Let’s hope Arum and the flunkies that surround Manny don’t ever push Freddy out. Now, let’s get a title to go along with being one of the two best boxers in the world. Chris John at 126 or Edwin Valero at 130 would be nice. But Juan Manuel Marquez is now the man except his win over Barrera was questionable and that will have to be given another fight to determine this. In the meantime I hope Manny get’s himself a title. With Guzman moving up to 135 it leaves one less opponent to consider.

Manny should not be too greedy. He already has the power because of his lofty achievement in sports. Now, he wants to be in mainstream politics? Is that not greed for power or plain insecurity of himelf?

(19) Rean says:

Manny is the worlds best pound for pound boxer and he’s a filipino sports hero but not a political leadership material. Celebrity status does not mean a potential excellent leader.

I adore Manny Pacqiao and I’m one of his die-hard fan, but his celebrity status has been exploited by the useless crocodi-political candidates to try to win ( or guaranteed to win) political office.

Even if Manny wins the congress, he does not have enough brain cells to help the poor life conditions of the filipino in his own home town.

If Manny Pacquiao continues to fight for his bid in the Philippine political office, the world will percieve that all filipinos have the same intellectual capacity as Manny Pacquiao.

Let it be!! We should hope that this trend will continue!! We will just hope that whoever wins the world’s Karaoke championship is from the Philippines and we will nominate him/her for the Presidency!!

Long Live the Philippine Style!!

Congrats to manny, I think manny will not win in his fight in politics because the people know that it will be bad for him, that is how much the filipino love him, I hope in his next fight that they also mentioned Manny Pacuiao is the Philippines National Fist. I hope Manny Fight Valero at his Prime right now to be Phisically match against Edwin Valero or Joan Guzman.
