P4P Poll: Mayweather or Pacquiao? Who's Number One?

Wednesday May 13, 2009
Manny Pacquiao, fresh off his two-round destruction of Ricky Hatton, is widely considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world today.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was the consensus pound-for-pound king when he elected to take a sabbatical from boxing after stopping Hatton in ten rounds in December 2007.

Well, Mayweather is done doing whatever he was doing while 'retired' and will face Juan Manual Marquez in Las Vegas on July 18. The hope and expectation of everyone in and around the fight game is that Mayweather will beat Marquez (no easy feat) and then face Pacquiao to decide - in the ring - who is the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.

Until then, fight fans will have to decide for themselves who they consider to be the pound-for-pound king . . .

The 30-year-old Pacquaio is unquestionably in his prime as he appears to continue improving under the tutelage of trainer Freddie Roach. Mayweather is a low-mileage 32 and there's no reason to believe he won't be able to return to the form that allowed him to compile a perfect 39-0 record between 1996 and 2007.

Both fighters share Oscar De La Hoya and Hatton as their two most recent ring opponents. Pacquaio's overwhelming victories have The Golden Boy and The Hitman questioning whether they will ever fight again. What's important to remember about Mayweather's wins over Oscar and Ricky is that - while they were less impressive than Pacman's blowout victories - they both came first. In other words, Mayweather arguably beat better versions of both Hatton and De La Hoya than the ones that entered the ring against Pacquiao.

So who do you rate as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world today? Mayweather or Pacquiao? Vote in our poll.

(4) Matt Weinstein says:

Floyd has slowed down the last couple years, and this was two years ago before he retired. He has been boxing since he was 4 and he is 32 now so he is probably burnt out from the sport.

At this point Manny has the edge in both speed and power. He has been fighting top tier fighters the last decade so he has a ton of ring experience. He doesn’t take time off from the ring, he always keeps himself sharp.

Mayweather is bigger but they are going to bring him down to 140-142. And being in shape may not be enough to beat Manny because mentally, Mayweather seems a little too cautious.

(8) jigaa says:

Pacquiao is the best fighter today period!!!! KO hatton in 2 rounds delahoya in 9. mayweather in my oppinion deserved a draw at best against delahoya. and hatton wasn’t a quality boxing technition to begin with. he’s just a bunch of pressure and pacquiao proved he can be elusive obviously quick and powerful. 3 knockdowns the third leaving hatton unconcious before he hit the canvass. pacquiao has everything mayweather does. and the one thing mayweather lacks that pacquiao excells at, heart and effective agressiveness

May 13, 2009 at 6:02 pm
(9) Jeffrey Santacruz says:

Since 2003 Mayweather fought 10 times against DelaHoya, Hatton, Sosa, Ndou,Bruseles, Corley and Mitchell, Gatti and Judah.
Pacquaio fought 16 times with only a loss to Morales. He beat Dela Hoya, Hatton, Barrera and Morales twice and Marquez once. These fighters are good and some great fighters. Can you say the same thing to the opponents of Mayweather except for ODH and Hatton? What about Pacquaio’s higher KO ratio? You folks decide.

(12) Gee says:

You people kill me riding the band wagon. PacMan is a great fighter no doubt, but he lacks in one department that is the most over looked in the sport. (DEFENSE) PacMan lacks defense. He looks good fighting fighters who are a hell of alot slower than him because they cant hit him or block his punches. Mayweather my friend has Two of the most important tools in boxing, (defense& patience) Pretty boy will block most of PacMan shots and make him miss the others. While doing that he has incrediable patience, waiting to catch Pacman with solid quick chopping punches to the body and chin, and they hurt, just ask Corrles,Gotti,Judah,Jesús Chávez. ,Shambe Michell,DeMarcus Corley,Ricky Hatton,Phillip Ndou,José Luis Castillo, and Angel Manfredy. On july 18 2009 you can also ask Juan Manuel Márquez. He will suffer the same fate as the others. May I remind you Juan Manuel Márquez did beat PacMan once before and to many twice, including the rematch. Mayweather 39-0, P4P. Thats another thing how in the hell are you going to be considered P4P WHEN YOU GOT YOUR ASS WHIPPED. Only undefeated fighters can make that claim in my book. I’m just saying….

May 13, 2009 at 6:58 pm
(13) Mayweather is King says:

Oh Mr.Gee you got it all wrong. Barrera had superb defense,Sasakul had, Ledwaba had perfect defense, so is Lucero….there’s no defense against a stronger puncher.

Im a Mayweather fan, but I guess he lacks in resume-department. He needs to gets tested against the best. Not the kinds like Judah or Corrales for chrissakes!

May 13, 2009 at 6:58 pm
(14) ER says:

I don’t buy the argument that PBF beat better versions of ODLH and the Hitman… where did that come from?

My book ODLH beat PBF take a look at PBF face after the fight.

The Hitman almost put PBF down and it wasn’t his best weight class.

This is crap

(15) ajax says:

PACMAN is the best it is the people who watch make him the best for every fight he does their is a thrill of the game and that was the advantage of pacman over mayweather. with mayweather fight he may be the most defensive and patience fighter of the century that why his fight stinks.,fans like exiting and explosive fight pacman is the man he’s willing to take a risk punch and be punch. while mayweather defense and makes some chicken dance in the canvass and forget its a boxing match not a dancing with the star.

May 13, 2009 at 7:13 pm
(16) Ken says:

Mayweather’s hands are faster than PAC’s, but PAC throws a higher volume of punches, so it appears that he is faster. Manny has the better power but they are two different style fighters. Manny is the hottest fighter right now, and he beat some good fighters that were basically worn out- MAB and Morales pretty much cancelled eachother out, so when Manny got a hold of them, they were there for the taking. But remember, Morales clearly beat Pac the first time they fought and Morales had mileage on him at that time. Manny fought JMM to a draw their first fight because once JMM figured him out, he dominated Manny the rest of the fight to earn the draw and in the second fight, Manny barely won by 1 point because of the knockdown and was awarded a 10-8 score. Manny is a real good fighter, Roach is lucky to have him, but IMO, when he fights Floyd, he will be out boxed pretty badly. Everyone is so amazed at PAC because he is explosive and is vastly improving as a boxer, but in the lower weight divisions folks, great boxing skills, superb defense and ring intelligence usually defeats explosive power and that is what you get when you fight Floyd. Say all that you want about Floyd, but the dude’s skills are all that. I do believe Manny has the goods to beat Mayweather, he has ko power to end a fight with one punch, he throws lots of punches and never tires while applying pressure, but he needs Mayweather to make mistakes and Floyd is way too good for that to happen. Mayweather is not Hatton, he will not rush Manny and leave himself open to be countered and ktfo. He is not an old weight drained ODH or a worn out Morales, who had been in three wars with MAB. Mayweather is a master technician with great defense, he hardly ever gets hit clean and he is the ultimate counter puncher. He is basically a bigger, faster and better version of JMM and we all know the success JMM had against Manny. Mark my words folks, Manny will have his moments in the fight against Mayweather, but at the end of the fight, he will be dominated like never before.

(17) kirk3451 says:

Gee is one big moron riding on the zero loss stat of Gayweather Jr.. of course gayweather jr has zero loss coz he aint fightin the best fights.. always lookin for lesser risk fights.. the solid proof to that is gayweather now is fighting a legit featherweight in Marquez.. while Pacman is a legit super featherweight and has been trying his greatness in competing against the champs of the higher divisions coz Pacman has already beaten all possible opponents in his own division.. knocking even legit middleweights in Oscar Dela Hoya.. annihilating legit jr welter in Hatton and destroyed a legit lightweight in Diaz.. and in a fashion so mind-boggling even gayweather with his big size as a legit welterweight cant even do the same to these same opponents in Oscar and Hatton… gayweather has good defense yes.. his main defense is to run against quality opponents.. gayweather could have been knocked out long ago had he fought the best challenge in his own division… its so sad though that he is chicken and sooooooo gay!!!!

(18) Eric Brun says:

Who’s number 1? They’re both number one! Mayweather is number 1 in trash talking and boring boxing! Pacquiao is number 1 in humility and exciting boxing!

(19) ProfessorLex says:

Nah, you got it so wrong KEN. In terms of opposition Mayweather never faced someone like Pacquiao. He cherrypicks to protect his undefeated record. If you think he is that great wait till they meet and when they do, please write back here you excuses.

Morales was worn out, Oscar Dela Hoya was a shell of himself, Ricky Hatton’s punch resistance went below the usual, hahaha. To be honest Ricky Hatton’s excuse was so insulting, I did’t see that coming.

May 13, 2009 at 7:31 pm
(20) kirk3451 says:

a lot of crap is going on that gayweather is better than Pacman.. why not gayweather fight Pacman if indeed he believes he is the better man.. if that was me and i believe i’m better than the other… i no doubt will fight him and whoop his ass… but why is gayweather ducking Pacman and instead went to the lesser Juan Manuel Marquez?? obviously it’s becoz he fears Pacman.. the thought of being inside the ring with Pacman makes gayweather pee his pants no end.. i dont blame him.. such position is really dreadful.. so i understand why gayweather is coming up with fast solutions and ways not to make it possible.. it’s alright gayweather… i understand.. you are just chicken.. and that’s alright… Pacman Rules!!!

May 13, 2009 at 7:34 pm
(21) boynxdoor says:

never mind the debate… let’s just wait and see… if it happens??? maybe not… still for me Pacman is the best at the moment and Floyd always runs away with the best fighter lately, I mean Marques??? he is too small for him and even Pacman. He should fight Cotto,Margarito or Mosley.. This guys are the one with His Caliber but for the sake of who is the p4p then ok… we’ll just wait and see. Marques was the hardest fighter Pacman had face but still Pacman was the winner, no more issues co’z it’s done and over. draw on the 1st fight and Pacman won on the second… Marques never put Manny down but Him, he kissed the Canvas 4xxxx so what’s the problem with that. If a 3rd match Happen then who knows? He might not wake up again or Pacman may lost…. OK

May 13, 2009 at 7:38 pm
(22) kirk3451 says:

i dont understand why people call Pacman’s defeated opponents as worn outs, dehydrated and ready for the picking… when Pacman fought with 2 week’s notice against then champ Ledwhaba, nobody even gave Pacman a chance and people said it will be a walk in the park for Ledwhaba.. when Pacman fought Barrera people said Pacman has no chance.. when he fought Morales and Marquez they said Pacman will be annihilated.. when Pacman fought Diaz they said Pacman is too small fighting in lightweight.. when Pacman fought Dela Hoya they said it’s a mismatch.. when Pacman fought Hatton they said Hatton is the real deal coming in undefeated at 140 lbs.. and now that all of them were destroyed by Pacman, they are all washed-ups and worn-outs.. funny.. so when Pacman now fights Mosley and Cotto and defeats them, I can hear people say they too are old or ready for the picking… wtf!!! whats wrong with these idiots?? morons are everywhere!!!

(25) beebok says:

dela hoya and hatton were better versions on themselves when they fought mayweather than when they fought manny… what a misplaced idea! Don’t tell me that shane was better in his earlier outings than when he fought cotto…and the rest of the fighters. dela hoya had a better team and good training regimen in prepration for manny… hatton claimed he also had (before the fight). They are well prepared. their loss is utterly one-sided due to the skills of manny.

May 13, 2009 at 8:00 pm
(26) boynxdoor says:

KIRKS.. they just can’t accept it because they’re a bunch of loosers… excuses excuses and excuses… it’s always like that, jealousy is the right word for that… they’re Jealous of what Pacman has achieve… So lets face it, other people will always say against the best fighter but at the end of the Day He is (pacman) the p4p king… With a humble in His heart and never do trash talking and always just doing his job and entertain the crowd to make them happy…
Hatton on the other hand, i heard all His interview before the fight and even after… all he’s doing now is cry everyday he wakes up… and if’s is his favorite word at the moment… If he stayed for few rounds, if he was able to control his heart…. etchetera etchetera…. He will not be beaten on his comfort zone and now they’re saying Hi drained or worn out… what’s going on Here Man, even me myself had it 50/50 since hatton was never beaten at 140lbs but not now….

May 13, 2009 at 8:01 pm
(27) zed888 says:

…”In other words, Mayweather arguably beat better versions of both Hatton and De La Hoya than the ones that entered the ring agaainst Pacquiao”. Ha???, you mean to say Hatton was better on 147 lbs when he fought mayweather? What an observation?? So, you also mean that Erik Morales beat the better Pacquiao on their first bout??
The first loss of the boxer is not necessarily mean that he is better in shape than on his next loss. It only showed he lost to a better boxer.
Maybe you have forgotten that Manny has three losses before he become the best!
WHAT AN ANALYSIS!!!!

Stupid! stupid! stupid!
Always making an excuse that Manny fought a more beatable version of blah blah blah

Barrera – Training was interrupted
Morales – he’s been in too many wars
Diaz – He was too slow for him
Dela Hoya – He’s too old. He’s dehydrated.
Hatton – Mayweather already made him soft for Pacquiao.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe, just maybe! They all looked that way because they were fighting Manny Pacquiao?!
Damn! You really are stupid!

I wonder why there’s still people who dont believe pacquiao is the greatest boxer of all time. Those of you who dont believe me i dare you bet all your belongings when pacquiao fight mayweather, cotto, mosley or even margarito. ok? Trainer Mayweather Sr. I ask you can you still now say in front of media that pacquiao boxes like an amateur? pacquiao makes every opponent retire simply because 1st he has no fear, 2nd he has the heart, and ultimately he gives credit to God who is the only one who helped him and not boasts of his own God-given talent unlike the self-proclaied Ali and Mayweather jr. Why you critics have your excuses pop up after the fight such us Dela hoya drained, that he is old, etc, why not tell that excuses before the fight. it simply because you hypocrites dont accept that Pacquiao is the best!!!

(34) kirk3451 says:

i dont buy the crap of reasoning that Oscar Dela Hoya and Hatton are not better fighters than when they fought Gayweather Jr the first time… if this is our line of reasoning then we can say that Pacman’s first loss when he was a kid softened him up for the taking by the next opponent.. Pacman’s 2nd loss again softened him up for another next fight.. again Pacman’s 3rd loss against Morales must have softened him for the picking by the next opponent.. if this is so.. then please please explain to me why Pacman has wiped out all those who defeated him and went on to the upper divisions to wipe out champions naturally bigger than him… why?? how did that happen if that was the case?? is Pacman a freak of nature?? stupid reasoning!!! where did these so-called pundits learn to read, write and think?? pathetic fools!!!

May 13, 2009 at 9:12 pm
(35) jude neal says:

handsdown Manny Pacquiao. Remember that Manny fought all the big names and was always considered either too small, too lanky, less powerful, less skillful..etc. When he fought his first pro fight at 106 lbs. he was merely 98 lbs at the scale. Literally he had an 8-lbs dumbbell in his pocket. So whose the risk taker? Pacman. who fought hardlife, poverty, humiliation, scarcity, deprivation? Pacman. Who made giant strides in acquiring skills? Pacman. The best fighter in the world, of the decade, possibly atop the all time list, Pacman has not only battled life itself, he conquered it. What does he show for it? Oh mine….a truck load of humility. He is not a saint…but as he matures, he realized all that are his — power, charisma, speed, money, fame — all came from God…and he gives it back to him by paying forward to his people. Now…that’s a real fighter.

Mayweather has excellent defence and he has never lost to any fight. He is very good in blocking punces, and surely he will block Pacman’s punches. But Pacman throws numerous powerful speedy punches, he may block some but some will land on Fraud mayweather chin and body. Pacman gets stronger and stronger as the round goes on, and by the time the punches accumulated on the later round on Fraud’s body he will go down. He will not only go down by the heavy punches of Pacman, also the PRIDE that he is carrying will surely lead him to fall at the moment in his mind he chooses to fight the Pacman.

I thought Floyd jr actually lost his first bout with Jose Luis Castillo, and by the way, so did the great Imamuel Stuart.
But I find it hard to think he will lose to Pacquio because of his size advantage and safty first fighting style.
But even if Manny were to lose he could still be pound for pound better than Floyd because of the size difference and the fact his wins over DeLaHoya and Hatton were far more impressive than Mayweather’s

Hatton’s gonna bulldoze his way to Pacquiao.
And now you are saying that Mayweather WILL JUST block Pacquiao’s punches? Now where did you see that? How did you know if that’s what’s gonna happen.
I bet you also saw Pacquiao knocking Hatton out in just 2 rounds.
Stupid!

If Floyd Jr really want to be the best, He should fight Pacquaio. no more freaking alibi! I think Floyd Jr said he dont want to fight Pacquaio because he dont want Arum to be involve, bs! (56) ruxtc says:

Cole Williams must be Mayweater’s friend. Mayweather is a runner, his punches never really hurt hatton, except for that lucky body shot late in the fight. Mayweather is no way in Pacquiao’s class. He made his grand stand announcement right before the Pacaquiao-Hatton fight. After Pacquiao demolished Hatton so quickly, something he couldn’t do, I bet his eyeballs almost popped out. He now regrets it and is avoiding Pacquiao by making it very hard to arrive at an agreement. Hatton wobbled him a couple of times.Pacquiao would be hitting him faster and harder with both hands Mayweather is cared stiff. He first has to worry about Marquez, who can knock his ass ut. I bet he regrets his decision to unretire. He IS a runner, not a fighter.

Speed : Mayweather 8 – Pacquaio 9
Power : Mayweather 7 – Pacquaio 10

Lets be real now, If PBF fought Pacman right now this very second Pacman will send him to the hospital. Forget about what happened last year, 2 years ago, 5 years ago. Right now this very second Pacman will hurt PBF. A world champion at his peak vs a retired boxer trying to regain his old form. Remember the greatest basketball player in history- Jordan after he retired and came back? Iverson and Penny Hardaway embarrassed Jordan and the Bulls. It took Jordan time to find his form. Unless PBF regains his old form, he is not on Pacquiao’s level right now. Freddie Roach and Bob Arum publicly called out PBF to fight Pacman after the Hatton fight. When did PBF ever get called out without him responding? Never!! I’m still waiting for his response. I’m not going to say he’s scared but I’d at least expect a response from PBF. So P4P right now, current present time, not 2 years ago- Pacman unless proven otherwise in the ring. (sidenote: I voted for PBF on dancing with the stars)

Gayweather and your fanatic followers, if you want us to believe that you are still the no.1, you have to beat Manny. You have to fight him whether the prize is right or not. That, I don’t agree. Can you say that the young pacquiao that torrecampo knocked out is a better version of pacquiao that morales beat? or even a better version of the now pacquiao? I don’t think so. That’s a biased reasoning that has no sound basis at all.

SKILLS: Just when did knocking out your most dangerous opponents makes you less unskilled? Oh come on.

To be honest people vote against Mayweather because they dont like him…. they dont really base it on skill (sad when you cant put personal feelings away and face facts)..Mayweather beat every fighter he’s faced and he’s faced some of the greats…He beat Hernandez into Submission for his 1st title then he faced Angel Manfredy and blew him out in 2rds he faced a fighter most champions ducked Emanuel Agustus he handed Deigo Corrales(RIP) his 1st lost by dropping him several times before the TKO..Corrales was bigger and the puncher he was KOing everybody up to then and being touted as P4P status..he went toe to toe with Castillio and because it was close rematched him..then look at his rooster many avoided Contenders he beat as well as Gatti,Sharmba Mitchell,Zab Judah,Baldomir,DeLa Hoya, and handing Ricky Hatton his 1st true defeat…(technically you know he really lost to Luis Callazo..) Now i have much respect for Pacquaio he’s a credit to the sport and a great Puncher/boxer and not the other way around Floyd is a Boxer/Puncher and 25 Ko’s out of 39 wins says he can hit…some get you out quick the others break you down but what matters most is the WIN…Floyd undefeated still Pacquaio 48-3-2-36 which is really 50 fights and 36 Ko’s Mayweather seems to have a higher KO ratio and success..and like ALI wont be appreciated until he’s old or fully retired

Me personally thinks he brings Color/flava and as we say in the hood Swagga to the sport…the media made him a bad guy…He’s very humble after every victory i know i watch…Keep doin you Floyd and i say Floyd by Ko in the late round..and you haters will find another reason to hate..well Pac was really too small or Mayweather ran the whole fight……

When Hatton fought PBF it was done at 147. Hatton and his people, during his come-back campaign, have been saying all along that Hatton’s true weight is at 140 and that he is unbeatable at that weight. Manny destroyed him at 140. Looked a lot better than PBF in doing it. De La Hoya, while training to fight Manny, had legendary trainers in his camp watching him everyday, telling cameras they had never seen him in better shape. Manny destroys him and all of a sudden he was a “weight-drained shell of himself”. Nobody gave Manny a shot, but he proves everyone wrong so excuses have to be made. Give me a break and give the man his credit.

(81) Donald Wolberg says:

Making no claims for expertise–after all, I picked Hatton, but I do think styles make fights and this fight may be a real loser for PPV, just as was the Hatton fight. Hatton seemed confused and not to have a plan, except to get hit as hard as he could be hit and to get knocked out as fast as he could be knowcked out. Manny has the go to him style and chase him style and Mayweather has the run and rool a shoulder style. He really is not all that fast any more, and maybe never was–at least compared to his opponents. Manny is very fast and hits harder even if he is a little smaller, but not that much smaller.

Determination also makes fights. If the stories about tax problems are behing Mayweather’s need to fight and risk injury, that is a very different matter than fighting to really, really wanting to win. Trainers also matter. I have a nagging feeling that Hatton would have done much better with someone other than a Mayweather training him. Roach has certainly emerged as one heck of a trainer, and Michael Moorer in the corner too, sort of a Teddy Atlas clone, makes it very interesting.

I give it to Manny on the basis of being just as fast or a tad faster now, certainly as strong or stronger now, certainly more determined to win (and maybe call it a career after winning), and having a much smarter corner that cares more about the fighter than the fight.

You bunch of stupid noobs!

Why is it so hard for you to understand that Pacman is the best?

Ill tell you once again, BECAUSE! Pacman has improved in every fight! Yes he lost to Morales, and because he is learning more, he beat morales twicce to prove that he is the best!

About Marquez, I’m gonna ask you a question, are you guys better than the judges? LOL!!!

Marquez is a counter puncher, in a close fight, aggresiveness is a plus.

Again Pacman learned, thats why in the second fight with Marquez, he did really beat Marquez!

So STFU and eat some hotdogs while watching Pacman KO Gayweather, Cotto, & Mosely.

May 14, 2009 at 11:46 am
(83) Jorge Ramirez says:

Guys, I have to say that I am somewhat intrigued with this match up (Manny vs Money), let me throw my 2 cents in:

First, some are wondering why Floyd will fight Marquez (or Manny for that matter) when he literally said they are both two small for him. The reasoning is simple & he mentioned it on that same press conference: “Im here to claim what is rightfully mine” (his P4P status as number 1), as you all know, Manny is by far the number 1 P4P fighter today while Marquez is regarded as the number 2 P4P fighter so he wants a tune up with Marquez to get to Manny.

Second, statements of Pacman beating washed, over the hill & broken down fighters is very very wrong, Taking the DLH & Hatton fights as examples, he was able to KO De la Hoya with his lethal combination (Power & SPEED), was he over the hill at the time? Yes, but he was also washed up when Mayweather decisioned him in 2007. He KTFO Ricky in two at his natural weight (140lbs) something no one was able to do. Mayweather simply dominated both fighter & secured his victory, KO’d Hatton at 147 but we all saw that one coming as Hatton was never looked good at 47.

Do not be confused, I am a HUGE Mayweather fan & Im sticking with Floyd but Manny has won the hearts of many (including mine) on the way he fights & the reason for his fights. Manny is by far the most exciting boxer today in terms of action while Mayweather is the most exciting to watch as he simply dominates his foes with his amazing god-given skills. But we Mayweather fans (and Pacman fans also!) have to realize that this is a toss up; it’s going to be a war of will. Will Pacman be able to dominate Mayweather as he has DLH & Hitman, No way, Will Mayweather be able to put his defensive moves over Pacman & outbox Pacman? Most likely, but it all will depend on the game plan Freddy & Pacman are able to come up with.

So again, This is a very very intriguing match up pitting two of the greatest fighters of this generation in the same ring in the PPV that I would dub: “Pound 4 Pounf King – Manny vs Money.

Below is what I consider to be the match up

Manny Money
Reach 9 10
Height 8 10
Size 8 10
Heart 10 8
Speed 10 10
Power 9 7
Ring Generalship 9 10
Versatility 9 10
Skill 9 10

Final tally 81 85

Does my tally Matter in the ring, No, Manny & Floyd’s Will & Skill inside the ring will be the decisive factor.

My Prediction:
Being as objective as possible, I believe Mayweather will pull it off. Manny is so good on offense but does not have the defensive ability that Money has and will most likely get picked off with hard body shots from Money which will earn him the points.
Mayweather by Decision.

But first, Money must surpass Marquez on July 18th. He should be able to get thru.

@noirnoticvibe

Hey man do you know how to calculate ratio? When did the 25/39 64% became higher than 37/49 75%(actual) or 36/50 as you have said? Pacman obviously has the upper hand in KO department…

“he beat every fighter he’s faced”? nahhhh I think “He have beaten every fighter he chose to face”…

But statistically your right his unbeaten in how many fight? 39? How old is he again? He sure knows how to duck an opponent…

He’s undefeated no question, he can avoid punch, he can run he can counter, he can wait we can sleep… If being number 1 is just being undefeated then Floyd is your guy… If you want a fighter and a thrilling fight then he’ll probably fall on number 10 x 999999999999

About “MOST WIN” how would 39 be a “MOST WIN” over 49… I don’t know how you compute things but obviously “more fight” is a “more risk” and more risk with more win is definitely tougher than less risk with no loss.

Very objective comment, I would say the same…. May Weather has the upper hand in MP vs PBF of course same goes to JMM vs PBF. MP and JMM is fighting a former P4P on his weight level may be a little less, but the point is why is he fighting at lower weight level? – For the P4P title? Huh? What if Ivan Calderon is the Number 1 P4P, May Weather will fight him to get the P4P title back? The fight between JMM and PBF simply states he’s not number 1 he’s too far from being number 1.

PBF can only prove that he’s number 1 (not by beating MP or JMM) by gaining respect that he wants from all of us. Very simple beat legit P4P-Welterweight, Mosley, Cotto, Marga, Clottey or if he wanna be great beat legit P4P-Jr. Middleweight…

The writer failed to note that Hatton fought Money (not monkey please!) at 147 yet Money didn’t finish him off until 11th. Hatton best weight is 140 but Pacman the so called smaller guy dismantle him in just 2 rounds. Oscar seemed old and slow and drained with Pacman but actually he wasn’t. Pacman was just simply too fast and better fighter than Osky that’s why. I bet anybody, if Oscar fights again with the like of Mayorga, even Cotto or Margarit (not Mosley because he’s fast like Manny) he’s going to be look lot faster than any of these fighters because all them punch like molasses compare to Manny. Common! wake up and live in the world of reality.

Don’t forget, he LOST to morales….. And marquez made PAC look stupid TWICE!!!! And neither marquez or morales can be compared to pbf……. It never ceases to amaze me at how many people jump on and off bandwagons as easily as they do. Your EYES should tell you that Floyd has all the advantages over Manny. Forget about common opponents and all that crap becuase it doesn’t make a difference. Manny is at an all time high but he’ll be fighting a guy who is faster than he is and has better punching form, balance and ring intelligence. Manny had 4 years to figure out how to beat Marquez and did worse in the 2nd fight than he did in the first. Floyd is going to destroy JMM. Just wait and see. JMM is coming down the other side of the mountain and his win against Diaz was his last great fight but even in that one he was getting the crap kicked out of himself until the Baby Bull passed out at the sight of his own blood. So, when Floyd beats him people will say JMM was old. It’s amazing that Manny gets so much kudos for beating guys Floyd already beat. When Floyd beats JMM people should take a long hard look at the reality of the situation and realize that Manny doesn’t have the ability to cope with PBF’ssuperior boxing skill. I wouldn’t be suprised if Manny lunges in with his straight left hand squaring himself up and get’s stopped by Floyd’s straight right hand. Floyd has the overall better pedigree in EVERY department so it won’t be a suprise to anyone who knows what the hell they’re talking about when he outclasses Manny. And, No!! The fight won’t be an all time classic.

But Ivan Calderon does not have the crown now does he rtp? And even if he did, P4P fighters are normally tested in different weight classes to prove themselves so if he was P4P King, why the hell not? Remember, p4p assumes you are the best no matter what weight class you are able to compete in.
Floyd competed from 130lbs to 154lb -> P4P King until he retired.
Manny competed from 122lbs to 147lbs -> Reigning P4P king.

This question is dumbfounded. Gayweather retired – and his seat was taken by Pacman. You cannot just take back what was yours when in the first place, it was Gayweather who left it. Fraud has to earn it first! Period.

But Fraud facing Pacman? Impossible. Gayweather is chickened by the Pacman!!! An unblemished record does not put you in the no. 1 spot. Or a win with JMM. Loser. Fraud’s battle with JMM is just for the second best. Sore losers! Hahaha

I’m biased. I’m Filipino and I want to see Pacquiao win. One thing I haven’t read yet in 100+ posts is that Pacquiao has Freddie Roach on his side. The man has a great eye for breaking down and finding weaknesses on each of Pac-Man’s opponents. He does his homework, watches fights, and knows how to analyze individuals. I don’t know much about Mayweather Jr.’s camp, but he’s in trouble if his corner isn’t half as good as Roach.

No matter what, when Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. happens it’ll be good.

@ Jorge Ramirez

Wow man… You didn’t seem to get my argument… I mentioned Ivan Calderon for his weight… fighting @ 106, so if he (Calderon) is the current P4P say at 106 ~ 122… PBF would also challenge him (Calderon) for a fight, may be at a catch weight of 138 for Calderon to prove that he is the real deal… or for him to easy take away the P4P title by beating a 106 ~ 122 pound fighter… That is the reason why certain fighters are still undefeated…

He will fight JMM or MP to get the title (P4P), but MP got the title not by beating smaller fighter with titles, he got it by getting in the “Ring” with anybody who dares to challenge him.

PBF should fight legit welterweight and light middleweight fighters’ period. If he can do that then let’s see, if he is explosive and dominant, then we can decide if he is worthy to be number 1. For now this issue with MP and JMM, PBF as no balls…

Yahh I agree with you 100% –> “It never ceases to amaze me at how many people jump on and off bandwagons as easily as they do. Your EYES should tell you that Floyd has all the advantages over Manny.”

Cause:

PBF only fight if he has the advantage… So he choose JMM… Plain and simple… May be he’ll try it with MP… But that is questionable –> we’re having PBF vs JMM july 18 and no… no… no He will definitely not try it with other Welterweight and Light Middleweight… Plain and simple he has no advantage over there simply because he has no Balls…

(112) boxing fan says:

As a boxing fan, i think PACMAN is far better than PBF because PACMAN is a very exiting boxer. He has proven himself by fighting the best boxers. He has beaten legendary boxers, like Barrera(twice), Marquez(once but i think twice), Morales (twice), Hatton, Dela Hoya, Diaz to name the best he has beaten. All of those fight are classic fights, All of them hit the canvas (with the exempotion of Dela Hoya because he surrendered). Manny want to fight Floyd next, thats how Manny is, he wants to fight the best there is. With respect to Mayweather since he has a 0 on his record, I think his a good boxer but I dont think we can say that his the best r better than MANNY, he needs to prove himself by fighting the best. If he thinks his the best then he needs to fight Pacquiao or the best fighters now lik Cotto, Margarito, Williams and so ON. Now his fighting JMM, JMM is a good boxer but his a boring boxer, his a coward, i dont know why some of this so called BOXING analyst call him a smart fighter, his a coward like FLOYD, he punch and run. It may be a good boxing but not an exiting one. Mayweather may call himself the best but I know deep in his heart he knows Manny is better than him. PROVE YOUR SELF FLOYD, DONT FIGHT A JUST GOOD BOXER! FIGHT THE BEST BOXER. YOU KNOW WHAT? YOUNG BOXING FAN LIKE ME WILL BE HERE FOR A LONG TIME, AND WHENEVER WE HEAR PEOPLE DEBATING WHOSE BETTER, YOU OR MANNY, WE WILL ATTEST THAT YOUR A LOSSER BECAUSE YOU ONLY FIGHT THE UNKNOWN GUYS!

everybody on the manny band wagon is a fool. when manny fought delahoya oscar was a drained fighter. floyd would have done the same thing if it was at 147 pounds.lets not forget floyed also came into that fight at 147 pounds to fight a guy who was almost a whole 15 pounds bigger. Morales had already been through wars by the time he fought manny and still managed to win one of those fights. shamba, diego, hatton, corly, where all in there prime when they lost to floyd and lets not forget that floyd started as a lightweight fighter as well and only started moving up before he fought gatti.

This is my expert opinion, on this match up.

Mayweather is 39-0 (will be 40-0) and has never had nobody “Really” make him fight. Nobody to make him step up and make him become the fighter that we would love.
Pacquiao is 54-3-2 and is more of a warrior/brawler and his head movement isn’t the that good. He’s been fighting shells of Oscar De la hoya and Ricky Hatton (not the same when floyd fault them). I will say that Pacquiao is double the fighter he was just two years ago.

All and all, i have an 11th round Knockout by Mayweather. Strictly because, Pacquiao’s to aggressive and overeager. Also Mayweather is the paramount fighter in this match up and all of BOXING.

WTF.. People are giving so much emphasis to Floyd’s talent (let’s give it to him the dude can box), sure he did beat good fighters but i’m not betting one of them will be in the Hall of Fame save from arguably ODLH.. He’ll be in the league of Whitaker, Wright and Hearns and other honorable mentions but never side by side with Robinson Armstrong, Hagler Leaonard, Duran and Ali.. Yes he do have an immaculate record but most of the all time greats suffered losses because they took the risks to prove themselves these guys have guts and courage.. money’s got talent but he is one big mouthed pussy handpicking his opponents so he could protect his zero (although i believe he lost to castillo).. I wonder why the fight is being billed as Number One/Numero Uno.. who are they kidding? these mother efers are just trying to insult the the true P4P king.. Well Pacquiao does not need them anymore they are not in his league because at the end of the Pac’s career he’ll be an all time great.. worthy to be with the guys who brought boxing to new heights..

I’m a huge proponent of the “sweet science” for nearly four decades going. My all-time favorite fighter: Marvelous Marvin Hagler. (Just wanted to give a shout out) !!!Anyway….. I’ve been a “silent” fan of Floyd for a number of years but have always wanted to see him get KO’d just once. Not a TKO but soundly beaten and dropped like fallen timber — down for the count. I’ve always felt that a good thrashing is a humbling experience for the mouthiest and most arrogant in the sport. I’ve watched most of Mayweather’s fights from roughly 1997 on and no question – he does possess phenomenal skills and can hurt opponents with barrages and classic combinations. He’s quick, a great counterpuncher a good closer and strong finisher. His defense is only somewhat notable and he confuses his rival with it but by the same token, that’s what I truly dislike about him. He lures the other guy in and leans on the ropes picking shots and it’s obvious that he does not like to get hit. He capitalizes on opponents who lurch over him that are off balance and vulnerable. Because of this unique style of run and cover defense, his attackers get easily frustrated. He’s not been chin tested by some of the best he’s faced and I believe that he can be hurt by the right guy who has the patience to stalk and catch him. I expect him to “run and cover” against Pacquiao too, but Manny is a savvy guy and will use his clever southpaw style, power and ring smarts along with the recent activity to his benefit should this fight get made. I’ve been watching Manny for just as long as Floyd and do recall when he got KO’d early by that Thai boxer, so Manny does have a suspect chin. But he also has a near perfect resume of improvement and many outstanding fights (minus the Morales fight he lost by decision) which follow. This dream fight will draw a huge constituent of fight fans on both sides with gigantic purses for both guys. Freddy Roach may be suffering the debilitating effects of MS but it is clear that he knows how to make Manny respond to his training and I’m sure Freddy will carefully and accurately disect tapes of Floyd to expose those oh so few weaknesses and vulnerablities that are not visible to the average fighter. If both guys bring their A game, could be a great one. My prediction: the classy and popular Manny Pacquiao wins by majority decision. My dream prediction: Manny by brutal KO in the 9th, but I’ll hold on to that one for the rematch.

(130) kos says:

Just to chime in from my previous post above. Many of you state that Mayweather is “bigger” than Pacquaio. Perhaps in terms of the weight Floyd fought at for 8-9 years but officially, Floyd is 5′8″ while Manny 5′6 1/2″. Only major difference in the two is arm length where Floyd boasts a 72″ reach and Manny just 67″. Didn’t make much of difference when Manny fought the taller, rangier DeLaHoya. Manny proved he can “lunge and punch” with great accuracy and power. Yes, Oscar is washed-up but he caught and stunned Floyd early in their fight yet wasn’t able to finish or even remotely try to close the deal. Floyd has shown that he is capable of getting caught early on but gets better as the fight progresses. So does Pacman. Manny will have great success if he goes right after Floyd early on. I see it going the distance in favor of Pacquiao unless he gets careless where Floyd actually puts him to sleep. Manny’s style and southpaw stance aren’t enough for him to win though. He needs to incorporate more in his defense by tucking his chin close to the collarbone and keeping his hands up, especially as he’s retreating. I choose Manny all the way in this one and a KO would be the icing on the cake but I still see it going the distance with Manny winning the decision. Quietly lurking in the shadows is Sugar Shane Mosely. Sugar is THE guy who can absolutely destroy Floyd and if most people don’t think so, look what he did to Margarito with packed gloves and all. Shane’s shining moments and top form took place when he fought at 135-145. He has all the skills and is a hybrid of these two guys combined stylistically. Shane doesn’t run and hide and he’s all business in the ring and incidentally, he’s never been KO’d or even hit the canvas in his pro career and he’s fought some pretty heavy handed dudes. Sign Mosely and Mayweather BEFORE Pacquiao/Mayweather in less than a year before Shane gets too old (37) and I guarantee this will be a phenomenal bout and easy KO for Shane. Then six months later let Manny send Pretty Boy into permanent retirement ending his so-called illustrious career.

Mayweather beating Pacquiao it’s a BIG possibility… Why?

He has A BIG advantage; reach, height, weight he’s a boxer from welterweight/light-middleweight for crying out loud…

Now Floyd takes on Marquez, Pacquiao next…
What would he get, easy money, easy opponent, P4P title… No loss in his elusive record…
He’s really is the superman equivalent in gay boxing!

They said Floyd was able to beat fighters at their prime and Pacquiao beats the washed-up version? on what basis?

How would you know?

Age? – Floyd 32 so He’s already a washed-up boxer if Pacquiao beat him. If he win over Marquez, then JMM is a washed-up athlete…

Loss? – When a boxer experience a loss, then he is already a washed-up athlete… MP and JMM are surely is a washed-up athlete that beating all big names out there.

Manny Pacquiao is the real deal and undoubtedly the best thing that ever happened to boxing. Unlike all the other greats out there who combine showmanship with skill, the PACMAN is all skill. No need for showmanship. He lets his fists do the talking and boy, do they talk loud!

Everything about the man is TRUE. He is known for his killer fists, his stout heart, dogged determination, blazing fast hand and foot speed and most of all, his unfathomable humility and genuine love for the game. I’ve never seen a humbler fighter!

You won’t hear any bad-mouthing from this man. Not today nor tomorrow. My wish for the Pacman is that he stays true to his heart. Never to be swayed by the people who surround him who are only after his fame and fortune. I wish he exits the game gracefully when his time comes so his star won’t be tarnished. Lastly, I hope the money doesn’t get to his head.

To the Pacman, keep fighting proud! Every Filipino is behind you!

Against Pac, Hatton was fighting at his beloved Junior welterweight. He had never lost at that weight. Pac had never fought at that weight. Plus Hatton was still young.

Forget about Mayweather being undefeated or Pacman having lost three fights. That’s not how you judge a boxer’s greatness. It’s the quality of the opponents you were willing to fight. He fought the top three mexican champions of this generations eight times. He fought Diaz, Delahoya and Hatton with a world title on the line. He’s even demanding Cotto to stake his title for their upcoming fight. Mayweather did fight good/great fighters but who didn’t he fight for whatever reason he may have? Oh and has PBF helped his countryman? I don’t think so. Still both are great fighters. Its just that… Pacman doesn’t choose who he fights… PBF does. In my book, that makes a lot of differences.

Mayweather is such an arrogant talker. I think he feels intimidated.. but maybe not because he ONLY FIGHTS WITH PEOPLE SMALLER THAN HIM! Pacquiao will surely surprise him :D Can’t wait to see the fight. Go MANNY!! :D

(160) Twin says:

Both boxers are great, and they both can win this fight, but the nite of the event only 1 can prove to be the best. I believe manny has quicker hands, n Floyd has quicker feet. I would think they would also have the same amount of power. Floyd is bigger, and can fight smaller opponents, and he has proven that a lil 2 much. N 4 Manny he just proved he can beat and take a real welterweight punch, so most would love 2 see floyd go down. I would 2, but it aint gonna b easy. Once Manny gets da rite hit n stunz Floyd, he would have 2 continue 2 punch, and move out the way if needed. I say dat cuz Floyd is known 2 hold u tight if he’s hurt. And dat only gives Floyd breathing room. I believe dis fite will go da distance. Manny can go da full 12, and can play hard 2 beat. N Floyd will fight 4 points. So dis could be a surprise 2 every fan!

Those mayweather fans don’t know what they are talking about. How will the filipino man prove to all of you that he is the best, and he has beaten the rest of the best? Mayweather will stop Pacquiao? C’mon, that’s really bs . . .

I believe Mayweather did a great job at picking his opponents. I believe he picked Manny this time like he did the rest. I believe Manny also picked some of the same opponents Mayweather did. Hatton and Dela Hoya to metion a couple.
