Holyfield Schedules January Fight in Uganda

Tuesday November 24, 2009

Former heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield has reportedly agreed to fight Francois Botha on January 16 in Kampala, Uganda for Botha's World Boxing Foundation title. That's right, 41-year-old Francois Botha has a title. And 47-year-old Holyfield is still on his unrelenting quest to once again become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Botha has a career record of 47-4-3-1NC but is probably best remembered for the four losses - all by KO - to Michael Moorer, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko. In his prime, Botha was a very tough opponent but has only fought four times in the past seven years, winning three before fighting to a draw against Pedro Carrion last month in Germany.

Holyfield will have been inactive for just over a year himself when this bout takes place, with decision losses to Sultan Ibragimov and Nikolay Valuev in his two most recent outings - both title shots.

Holyfield, ever the optimist, hopes that a win over Botha will result in a title shot against WBC champ Vitali Klitschko later in 2010. Be careful what you wish for champ ...

Well, seeing as there’s no chance of anyone getting hurt from a punch in this borefest, maybe a parachutist will land directly on Holyfield’s head and knock him out.

I’m hoping for the improbable and would love to see this fight end with Holfield out cold on his face, hurt badly and never to fight again. I don’t wish him any permanent injury, but just enough to rattle all the rocks in his skull.

Holyfield is a senile moron and this is just an embarrassment for boxing.

You are an idiot!!! Do boxing fans a favor and switch to mma or wrestling you moron. You obviously know nothing about the sport and nothing about Holyfield. Oh yeah…never reproduce either!!!

Brad – are you related to Holyfield? Maybe YOU need to pay attention to the sport more because unless you’ve been living in a cave the last few years you’d realize that anyone who knows ANYTHING about boxing knows that Holyfield is now a joke and is embarrassing himself and the sport. He’s finished.

I’ve been following boxing probably longer than you’ve been alive. Go play with your Xbox and leave the commentary to those with a brain.

Old and repeatedly banged aroud, body and head, Evander Holyfield is his own worst enemy. Of course he has major, major financial issues, apparently and sadly because of his own mismanagement of the huge amount of money he has made, as well as the disaster that seems to be a his personal life, Evander Holyfield is not competitive any longer, and every fight now brings the risk of very serious physical and mental damage. One wonders why he is allowed to continue by any of the regulatory authorities and I agree with Teddy Atlas that there is a real need for a national regulatory policy for boxing and boxers. Of course Botha is over the hill and can suffer damage as well, and one can only suspect that money drives his interest in this match.
