Evander Holyfield is 47 years old but remains stubbornly focused on winning the heavyweight title for a fifth time. Holyfield, who won the vacant (and obscure) WBF title with an eighth round TKO of Frans Botha in April, will defend that belt on November 5 against 37-year-old journeyman Sherman "Tank" Williams (34-11-2, 19 KOs) at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
A win over Williams moves Holyfield no closer to a legitimate title shot. So why take this fight? Only Evander Holyfield knows for sure . . .

THE FANS ARE NOT WORST FOR THE WEAR??? IT’S BLOW OUTS THAT MAKE IT BAD FOR THE FAN.

HE AIN’T SELLING CRACK OR BREAKING THE LAW HE IS A FIGHTER AND FIGHTERS FIGHT- BETTER THE RING THEN
SHOT 2 DEATH IN THE STREETS??????
THATS MY FEELINGS
I hope he doesn’t get hurt. He seesm like he is not quitting till he gets his shot but i’m not sure he will get one. He ’s in great shape and the mind and heart is willing but the reflexes are long gone. I hope he doesn’t end up badly damaged one day. He has a long life to live (hopefully) after this quest is over. He should have gotten the nod over Valuev.
Evander is a legend, but should know his limits. Still to be in that shape age 47 is a mystery… Nevertheless, still quality boxer and good to watch fighter.
It is a pity that he has to keep on fighting, so long past his prime. He fights for financial reasons only, he has numerous children, most of them out of wedlock, the last count I heard was from 7-9 children. His child support payments are astronomical. For all practical purposes, he is broke. He will never win the championship again and he knows it.
What a shame.
I’ve always been a huge Holyfield fan.
He DID win the WBA title over Valulev, he just didn’t get the nods overseas.
Now I wish he’d consider hanging ‘em up. Fighting his next opponent accomplishes nothing as far as his championship goal(s).
When you inexplicably have about nine children out of wedlock with various mothers, I guess you have to keep plying your trade. But no one should be told they can’t work at what they love.
Had he left the sport like a normal human being with a (kind of) functioning brain, his “legend” might have stayed in tact.
Even in his prime was never much of a fan of his and always considered him overrated as far as upper-echelon boxers are concerned, but reluctantly had to accept his previous accomplishments within a once “legitimate” heavyweight division.
Instead, this genetic freak is now removing any remaining doubt that he’s a dumbass of epic proportion.
Unfortunately, there’s no one around who can hand this numskull the beating he now needs to send him to permanent retirement. With the current state of the heavyweight division it wouldn’t surprise me now if he keeps fighting into his 70’s.
Maybe some savvy promoter will hook us up with a Tyson/Holyfield rematch. This time Mike will bite Evander’s entire head clean off and end it for good. Now THAT I’d pay to see….
yes he can
poor guy got hit in the head one to many times
We have to assume he can still pass the required physical and other medical tests that let the sports authority concerned grant him the permission needed to fight. But it is clear that the brutal punishment all fighters take, even over short careers, leaves serious conditions. All boxers emerge damaged. In Holyfield’s case, with the number of blows to his head and his age,the damage must be at the stage where just that one or two more blows to the head will leave him permanently disabled. And they do not have to be heavy blows. Of course he must fight because of his financial difficulties, but where does the line between fighting and finance mix with leaving him severely damaged?
Please when will they stop Holyfield from getting boxing license’ s in different states?HE will end up[ with brain damage/dementia. Look at Ali, the Quarry bros.,both dead with brain damage , so bad they couldn’t tie their shoes, write their names everyday ADL skills. Stop Holyfield now before it’s too late, if it isn’t alreadyTworecent Korean fighter” died after getting beat up in fights!!!
