Manny Pacquiao looked awesome in stopping David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto in 2008-2009. However, Manny has now been taken the distance in four straight fights. Granted he easily outpointed Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito and Shane Mosley before being awarded a controversial majority decision in his third meeting with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been much less active than Pacquiao over the same period, fighting only three times since 2007. Floyd easily outpointed Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley before cheap-shotting Victor Ortiz to score a controversial KO.
So who belongs at the top of the pound-pound list TODAY? Manny climbed to number one by being more active and defeating common opponents - other than Marquez - more decisively than Mayweather. However, after much debate, I have come to the conclusion that Mayweather once again belongs in the top spot. Why? Partially because of the ease with which Mayweather pitched a near shutout against Marquez, while Pacquiao has now fought 36 rounds against Marquez to a virtual draw. The boxing adage that styles make fights is overused but accurate and it wouldn't be fair to knock Pacquiao out of the top spot simply because the style of Marquez gives him fits.
The bigger reason Floyd is back on top is because - head-to-head - I think he beats Manny ... relatively easily. Pacquiao would certainly have a puncher's chance against Mayweather ... but that might be his only chance of winning. Floyd can do everything Marquez can do ... only better. Mayweather is bigger, faster, stronger, younger and simply better than Marquez - both offensively and, more importantly, defensively. If Pacquiao couldn't figure out a 38-year-old Marquez, how is he going to beat Floyd Mayweather?
Let the debate begin . . .

“Why? Come on, be wise enough on judging boxing.
To answer Dums pacquiao knocked hatton out EARLIER than mayweather simply because pacquiao is a very active fighter who is willing to trade and fight fire with fire..hatton got caught with a string of punches..while mayweather broke him down SYSTEMATICALLY before knocking him out..as far as the de la hoya fights u have to consider facts..de la hoya came down to fight manny at a weight he hadnt fought at in YEARS and he looked drained..he was much more active in throwing punches against money than he was against pacman at his much more comfortable weight class seein as mayweather moved up in weight to fight him..marquez was able 2 ring manny all night with timing and counterpunches..what do u expect the younger faster and more defensive minded mayweather to do that will lead to anything other than a loss? I agree styles make fights can be overused but here it is a perfect example of why pacman is in over his head in this one..a punchers chance is always there though
yeah any1 who thinks manny has a chance is smoking crack mayweather is undefeated for a reason he cant be touched he’s the total package & much faster & bigger than manny good luck to all u pacman fans because he’s gettin ko easy
As much as I hate to say this, (because I have absolutely no respect for an opportunistic fighter like Maywether who gets into the ring to run then useing his speed instead of slugging it out like Manny does) but unfortunately I think Mayweather would wipe up the ring with Paqiao because Manny by now is definately past his prime. Too bad, because 3-4 years ago he may have had a chance to do the same with Pretty Boy. Maywether is now a powerhouse and I must admit that he prepares himself much better for every fight than anyone else in the boxing world today. My prediction is, Maywether, KO in the 5th.
Poechiauw is p4p better I guess, but on HIS LEVEL.
Note, that Poechie has not been seriously tested yet in the
ring: “OFF STEROIDS”.
WHEN IT COMES TO BOXING, ………..IT’S NOT OVER TILL IT’S OVER.
THE FIGHT BETWEEN MAYWEATHER AND VICTOR ORTIZ COULD HAVE GONE EITHER WAY. ORTIZ WAS DOING PRETTY GOOD, HAD MAYWEATHER AGAINST THE ROPES BUT THE FOOL LOST HIS COOL AND NOW WE WILL NEVER KNOW.
MAYWEATHER ALSO LOST HIS COOL, “PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES”………. pow…pow…. and more yaketty yak, yak, yak.
I THINK ORTIZ HAD A GOOD CHANCE AT BEATING MAYWEATHER.
SORRY, I GOT OFF THE TOPIC.
I DON’T LIKE MAYWEATHER, BUT FAIR IS FAIR. I THINK P4P
MAYWEATHER IS THE BETTER MAN. MANNY IS A BIT PAST HIS
PRIME.
