The 2012 Olympics started off very well for the U.S. men's boxing team ... but has taken a significant turn for the worse. The nine member men's team began with four consecutive victories as Terrell Gausha, Joseph Diaz Jr., Errol Spence and Jose Ramirez all advanced out of the round of 32.

Since then, however, the U.S men have lost seven straight bouts. The losing streak leaves only Spence at welterweight and flyweight Rau'Shee Warren, who has yet to have his first bout, still in contention for a medal. Both Spence and Warren are in action later today.

25 -30 yrs ago in Britain a concious effort was devised to improve Amateur boxers abilities. This nescitated all coaches to attend seminars with the countries top flight coaches to improve their basic coaching tachniques. Any club who did not participate could not enter their boxers in tournaments. As with all innovative ideas the results were gradual as the weeding out of sub standard coaches and the new skills were imparted to the boxers. I believe the Brits are seeing the fruits ot the seeds sowed not just in the Amateurs but also in the Pro ranks where the sound basics are such an advantage. I have no idea if a similar programme is used in America can someone enlighten me.
