Although not in the big number category, we should never forget ESPN2 and the delightful and frequently annoying Teddy Atlas, perhaps the best boxing commentator of them all. One looks at HBO and sees the guys who started with Teddy getting the nod, and one must wondethe late great Manny Steward, but has never gotten the big time cable nod. That is a shame. Friday Night Fights are the real trenches of the sport and the good and bad happens because it is all real. The matches may not get the big numbers watching, but this is the real heart and soul of boxing these days.
