Mosley Destroys Vargas in 6
The first meeting was close ... not this time. Shane Mosley (43-4) dominated Fernando Vargas (26-4) for five rounds and then stopped him in the sixth. Mosley was much quicker and beat a sluggish Vargas to the punch from the opening bell. A Mosley punch cut Vargas over the right eye in round five. Vargas was dropped by a perfect left hook from Mosley in the sixth and - after having difficulty getting up - was still shaky when referee Kenny Bayless allowed the action to continue. Mosley promptly landed a flurry of punches on an unsteady Vargas, forcing Bayless to stop the fight at the 2:38 mark of round six. After the fight, the talk immediately turned to what each fighter should do next. The sentiment seemed to be that Vargas should retire and that Mosley should move back to welterweight to take on Floyd Mayweather Jr. ... both of which sound like good ideas given their respective performances tonight.
