Klitschko Makes Brewster Quit After 6

IBF heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko (49-3) dominated former champ Lamon Brewster (33-4) so thoroughly over six rounds that Brewster's trainer Buddy McGirt decided not to send his fighter out for the seventh round. After watching his fighter eat a steady diet of jabs and hard right hands while offering nothing in return, McGirt told Brewster he was going to "pull the plug" on him. Brewster appeared relieved and offered no opposition to the suggestion.

Klitschko was in complete control from the opening bell -- keeping Brewster at the end of an effective jab and setting up straight rights. The win avenges Klitschko's fifth round TKO loss to Brewster in 2004 and further solidifies "Dr. Steelhammer" as the best heavyweight in the world.

Klitschko wants to unify the heavyweight title but may have to wait a while as none of the other beltholders will be available until next year. Oleg Maskaev is slated to defend his WBC belt against Samuel Peter on October 6 in New York. One week later, WBA champ Ruslan Chagaev and WBO champ Sultan Ibragimov meet to unify their titles in Moscow, Russia.

If Klitschko wants to fight again in 2007, his most marketable opponent might actually be . . . Evander Holyfield. Don't laugh ... the other option would likely be Hasim Rahman. No one wants to see Holyfield get beat up - as he almost surely would - but at least he'd show up for the fight in shape . . .
