Manny Pacquiao is many things, including a Filipino politician and entertainer. But he is, first and foremost, a professional boxer—and a remarkably successful one. During his career, Pacquiao scored 57 wins, including 38 knockouts, against only six losses and two draws. He was named "Fighter of the Decade" for the 2000s by the Boxing Writers Association of America.

The 1990s: Early Domination

Pacquiao dominated boxing's flyweight class in the mid- to late-1990s, though he did suffer a few setbacks.

1999

Pacquiao defended his WBC title in an April bout against challenger Gabriel Mira. In an unusual twist, Pacquiao fought Medgoen Singsurat in September, but since he had failed to make weight, the bout was a non-title fight, and Pacquiao lost by KO in the third round.

The 2000s: Pacquiao's Decade

This was Pacquiao's decade. The boxer won titles in a record-breaking seven different weight classes in the 2000s, including several wins against very strong challengers. Pacquiao would add a title in yet another weight class the following decade.

The 2010s: Pacquiao Defends His Titles

Pacquiao continued to successfully defend his titles, losing only one title match during the decade. He also picked up a belt in yet another weight class.

Pacquiao defended his WBO welterweight title in March and won the vacant WBC light middleweight belt in November.

2015

Pacquiao fought Floyd Mayweather in a long-anticipated match, which many critics said was underwhelming. Both boxers were each guaranteed a reported $100 million for the fight, with Mayweather bringing in more than $200 million. Pacquiao ultimately lost the match by unanimous decision.

Retirement and Comeback

After beating Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Pacquiao said he was hanging up the gloves. "As of now, I am retired," he said, according to Bleacher Report. "I'm going to go home and think about it. I want to be with my family. I want to serve the people." However, Pacquiao came back to fight—and win—a unanimous-decision bout in November. Pacquiao claimed the vacant WBO international and lineal welterweight titles for his win against Bradley. He won the WBO welterweight title and retained the lineal welterweight title for his November victory over Jessie Vargas.
